To Wilfred
by George Albert Leddy
(Christmas 1947)

A Merry Christmas, filled with cheer;
Followed by a glad New Year.
Lots of whiskey, plenty of beer;
Put your troubles in the rear.

That's the way we hope 'twill be
For you, Old Pal, as well as we.
A Merry Christmas, bright and gay,
To end the year that's passed away.

A Happy New Year to begin
The months we hope that God will send
His blessings down upon our land,
To make the whole world understand
That what we want is love, not sin;
And peace on Earth, goodwill to men.
